Once again, the Kiwanis Club of Oliver has shown its incredible commitment to Oliver’s children and youth.
Recently club secretary Rosemary Pritchard presented a cheque for $2,300 to Tuc-el-Nuit Elementary School. The money will be used to purchase a set of ukuleles for the school’s music program.
In Grade 6 and 7, Tuc-el-Nuit students have the opportunity to pick an instrument to play in the school band. For the majority of kids, this is their first major introduction to playing an instrument and may be the only two years in their lives that they actively create music.
Tuc-el-Nuit’s band teacher Lisa Ante dreamed about expanding the school’s instrument programming to include Grade 5 students. Her hope was to buy a class set of ukuleles, an accessible, easy-to-learn, hardy and fun instrument that suits younger kids. Unfortunately, the price tag for a set of ukuleles seemed out of reach . . . until the Kiwanis Club stepped in.
School students, teachers and parents say an enormous thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Oliver for the generosity it has shown to local youth in their pursuit of learning.
