Young basketball players may want to join a new club in the South Okanagan.
Penticton coaches Chris Terris and Dustin Hyde are excited to announce the creation of Lake City Club Basketball—a multi-age, competitive club basketball program that will be tailored to South Okanagan athletes.
The intent is to build a club basketball program that rivals any in the province and provides athletes who are passionate about the sport a chance to develop their skills in a competitive, nurturing environment. Teams will practice twice a week and play a series of highly competitive tournaments in Kelowna and Vancouver. These tournaments attract teams from all over Western Canada and the United States, so it will give players in the South Okanagan a chance to play against some tremendous players in their age group.
Many of the area’s most successful, passionate and experienced coaches will be on hand (to coach age-level teams) including Colin Cook, Andrew Knudsen, Russ Reid, Brian Hurst, Eron Labadie, Darsh Sidhu, Kevin Lodermeier, Todd Manuel and Mo Basso. A number of former players, who are now playing at college or university, will also help with teams.
Depending on interest six teams will be offered for boys and girls ranging from U13 to U17. ID camps for all the teams will be on Saturday, April 2 at Penticton Secondary. Girls’ teams will practice on Mondays and Wednesdays and boys’ teams on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Pen High.
Athletes and families that are interested in getting involved should visit the website to register for the ID Camp http://lakecitybasketball.weebly.com/. Questions can also be emailed to [email protected].
“I’ve been coaching basketball in Penticton for 20 years now. It’s time for a program like this,” said Terris. “Some of our keenest athletes having been travelling to programs at the Coast and Kelowna, but it puts a tremendous strain on parents travelling twice a week for practices. This will give them the same competitive opportunities but allow them to stay closer to home.”
