Breathe in, breathe out, and let the arrow fly. And that’s archery in a nutshell.

The sport was one of 17 at the 2016 BC Winter Games in Penticton, and two Oliver archers faced the pressure and did well, according to coach Ron Ostermeier.

He noted that Delaney Wise and Shawn Hiibner finished 5th in the Games, which was their first major competition.

All competitions see athletes shoot 10 rounds of three arrows at targets 18 metres away.

“There’s not a lot of strategy. You just try to stay calm and do your best,” said Hiibner, a 14-year-old who represented Zone 2 Thompson-Okanagan.

Wise, 14, said she just wanted to have fun and do her best.

Ostermeier said both archers did very well despite the pressure that can affect people differently.

He noted that when Hiibner and Wise had a “downturn” in the competition, they came back with some strong shots.
