Fire Chief Dan Skaros receives the Fire Commissioner’s recognition for 30 years’ service from Oliver Mayor Ron Hovanes.

Thursday’s fire practice in Oliver saw Chief Dan Skaros presented with a special pin and certificate from the BC Fire Commissioner’s office.

Skaros was recognized for 30 years of service to the Oliver community. For three decades he responded to people’s crises whenever that pager went off, regardless if he was sleeping soundly at 3 am or having dinner with the family at 6 pm.

His famous quote: “It’s just what I do.” He said that after saving an eight-year-old boy from a burning motorhome a couple of years ago.

Skaros now leads a dedicated group of well-trained firefighters who give back to the community whenever the alarm sounds.
