A portion of the Monday, Jan. 12th General Meeting at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 97 in Oliver was dedicated to honouring a volunteer who has spent many years with the Legion.

And, as Comrade Lyle Nelson was paraded by Sargeant at Arms Jo Tanner to the front of the room to accept his 50-Year Legion Service Medal from executive member Chris Yerburgh, the following remark could be heard emanating from the front.

“Fifty years is a looong time,” said Yerburgh, somewhat under his breath.

“Too long,” quipped Nelson in response.

And with that, Nelson was proudly honoured for his many years of service when Yerburgh stepped forward, and pinned the 50-Year Legion Service Medal on Nelson’s Legion jacket.

It was a proud moment for everyone in attendance.
