Firemen free trapped motorists
Icy conditions caused a two-vehicle accident that closed Highway 97 at Vaseux Lake last week.
Rob Graham, media relations officer for the Oliver Fire Department, said they had to use a hydraulic spreader and a cutting tool to pop the door off of one vehicle to retrieve the occupants. There were no serious injuries reported.
Oliver RCMP said that a 19-year-old Penticton female was operating a 2005 Ford Explorer when she reached down to put the vehicle in four-wheel-drive. As she did so, the vehicle slid into the southbound lane, striking a Ford F150 occupied by a 60-year-old Oliver male and his 60-year-old female passenger. No charges were laid.
