Icy conditions caused a two-vehicle accident that closed Highway 97 at Vaseux Lake for more than an hour on Wednesday.
Rob Graham, media relations officer for the Oliver Fire Department, said they had to use a hydraulic spreader and a cutting tool to pop the door off of one vehicle to retrieve the occupants.
There were no serious injuries reported, but both vehicles, a pickup truck and an SUV, sustained significant damage.
Oliver RCMP report that a 19-year-old Penticton female was operating a 2005 Ford Explorer when she reached down to put the vehicle in four wheel drive. As she did so, the vehicle slid into the southbound lane, striking a 2008 Ford F150 occupied by a 60-year-Oliver male and his 60-year-old female passenger.
All parties were transported to Penticton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No charges were pursued.
