Town awards Phase 3 contract
Council awarded a contract to Grizzly Excavating to complete the final phase of the rural water-twinning project in Oliver.
Grizzly was the lowest bidder (out of 10 bids) at $988,449.
The total approved budget for the project is $1,864,000, but the Town is receiving assistance ($1,243,000) from the Union of BC Municipalities under the Federal Gas Tax agreement.
Town adopts Airport Operations Manual
Council adopted the Oliver Airport Operations Manual that outlines everything from noise abatement to emergency procedures.
Under noise abatement, aircraft taking off or landing will use their best efforts to mitigate noise over built-up areas by reducing power when safe to do so. The manual also states that the hospital north east of the airport is to be avoided.
Firefighters kept busy in September
Council received a report from the Oliver Fire Department, which responded to 15 incidents during the month of September.
Calls for service included four motor vehicle accidents, two alarm activations, one smoke sighting, one vehicle fire, one grass fire, two assist ambulance calls, and one tire fire.
Building permits keep moving
The Town of Oliver continues to issue building permits that breathe new activity in the community.
For example, the value of construction projects in September was $993,800, compared to $1,197,900 in September of 2012.
The total value of construction to date this year is $4,856,300.
Building projects last month included two new homes, an addition to an existing home, and tenant building improvements.
