If you’re looking for a reason to feel good about eating sweets, look no further. The Oliver Lioness Club donated the proceeds from their “Treats in the Park” initiative to the Chloe Kroeger trust fund on September 25.
Three members presented Chloe’s grandmother Shirley Van Vianen with a cheque for $500, which they raised by selling bottled water and baked goods in conjunction with the Oliver Community Arts Council’s Music in the Park series over the summer.
The organization runs the initiative annually and chooses a different recipient cause or charity every year. Van Vianen said funds will help cover some of the family’s expenses associated with Chloe’s treatment and medication. This spring the three-year-old Penticton girl was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
She has been undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments since June.
For the moment, Van Vianen said Chloe is hanging in there. She undergoes treatment in Penticton on a weekly basis and goes to Vancouver for a heavy treatment.
