The weekend they’ve been waiting for all year has finally come. Oliver’s all-female road hockey team will head to Vancouver this weekend to compete the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer tournament. The annual dawn to dusk event, which is held at Concord Pacific Place, raises funds and awareness for the BC Cancer Society. This will be the team’s second time entering the competition. In its first year the team, called GINA’S Rock – an acronym for Giving In Is Not Acceptable, raised over $14,000 for the Cancer Society. This year, they raised an impressive $13, 600, the bulk of which was raised within the last three weeks. Team captain Denise Miller said they are thrilled with the amount of support they have received from the community and are looking forward to the tournament. Thanks to the community’s support, Miller noted, GINA’s Rock has made it into the top twenty (fundraisers) and are currently in third place, which qualifies them for the celebrity draft. Miller said the team has selected country singer Aaron Pritchett to join their team. To find out more about GINA’s Rock click here or search ‘GINA’sRock’ on Facebook..
