The Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen (CFSOS) is happy to announce more than $400,000 in funding is available for their 2017 Granting Cycle.
The CFSOS granting cycle, which opened on December 2, 2016 and closes on February 10, 2017, saw a $30,000 increase in funds to disburse over the $377,000 it granted in 2016.
“The Community Foundation is grateful to have so many generous donors that believe in providing lasting support to local charities,” said Aaron McRann, Executive Director, CFSOS. “It’s incredible to think that since our founding in 1991, the Community Foundation has granted more than $3.3 million, including the 2017 grant allocation. And because the original donation amount is preserved and grants are made from income on investments, our donors have truly created an incredible legacy for our region.”
While grants cannot be made directly to individuals, charities and non-profits throughout the region are encouraged to apply or to contact the Foundation with any questions in advance of applying.
Applying for a grant from the Community Foundation involves a 2-step process with the first step being to create a profile on the Foundation’s Community Knowledge Centre website (http://ckc.cfso.net). The Community Knowledge Centre is a publicly available database of local charities for anyone looking to make an investment in the non-profit sector.
The second step in the application process is to complete an online application form. Projects under $1,000 in value will be able to complete the short form application process in a matter of minutes. For requests of more than $1,000 the long form application includes more detailed questions regarding project goals and budgets.
The Foundation is hosting Free Grant Writing Workshops throughout the RDOS in early January 2017. Anyone who applies for grants or is interested in applying to the Community Foundation is encouraged to attend.

The dates for the free workshops in the region in the coming weeks include: – Jan. 17 from 1 – 3 p.m. in Oliver.
– Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in Penticton.
– Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. in Princeton.
– Jan. 19 from 2 – 4 p.m. in Keremeos.
