Dear Editor:

The Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club annual regatta in 2016 is now over and we are proud to tell everyone in our community about what a successful event it was.

There were 41 skippers registered to sail in the event, which included the Canadian National Seaspray Championship and Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club Invitational Regatta.

The wind gods were good to us on two of three race days, allowing the Seaspray sailors to get in 10 races and the other classes either four or five races.

Unfortunately, the wind was too strong to safely put equipment and sailors onto the water on the final day of racing on Sunday.

Many parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles and friends came out to support the sailors, who ranged in age from 7 to 75.

A youth contingent of 28 from Kelowna, Vernon and Brooks, Alberta, kept everyone on their toes.

What a wonderful group of young people they were and assured all of us there are still “good kids” all around us and possibly there were a few future Olympians in the mix.

The sailing club’s member volunteers worked very hard to make this event successful, but could not have done it without the help of local businesses that gave their support so generously. A very sincere “thank you” to all of you. Your support was greatly appreciated.
