Just about a month after opening, a new restaurant in Osoyoos was gutted by an early morning fire on Thursday.

Crews from the Osoyoos Fire Department were dispatched to the new C’est Bon Bistro in the early morning hours. The restaurant is located in the Cottonwood Plaza at 6511 Main Street in Osoyoos.

The new restaurant, which opened the second week in May, replaced the former Ella’s Greek Restaurant, which had operated in Osoyoos for several years.

Fire crews were dispatched just before 5 a.m. and it took about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Fire Chief Rick Jones and several volunteer members were still on the scene around 9 a.m.

Town of Osoyoos Fire Chief Rick Jones said it appeared the fire started in the restaurant area of the business.

“It appears that it was in the front counter in the restaurant, not in the kitchen,” said Jones.

About 25 volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze, which was extinguished quickly, said Jones

“We started at just before five and the guys were there approximately for about two hours,” said.

Crews from Sunrise Restoration were busy doing renovation work to the restaurant early Thursday afternoon.

The owner of the restaurant, who, according to several sources, came to Osoyoos from Quebec to start his new business venture, could not be reached for comment.

We will update this story as more information is made available.
