Osoyoos residents are coming to terms with the blow to the community delivered by out-of-town school trustees last night, who voted 4-3 to close Osoyoos Secondary School.
Work is now beginning to have OSS reopen in the fall as an independent school, removing its control by School District 53.
The Town of Osoyoos and Save Our Schools (SOS) committee are currently seeking legal advice as to whether there are grounds to challenge the school board’s decision in court.
And you can bet that Mayor Sue McKortoff will be on the phone to Education Minister Mike Bernier.

MLA’s rep to talk to seniors about MSP premiums
A representative from MLA Linda Larson’s office will be at the Osoyoos Seniors Centre at 1:30 p.m. today to talk about changes to MSP premium charges. Forms will be available and someone will be there to help you with your applications. Bring your 2014 tax assessments, or just come and hear about it.
Osoyoos librarian to speak at Rotary
Georgia Bruyel, head librarian at the Osoyoos Branch of Okanagan Regional Library, will be the guest speaker today at the Rotary Club of Osoyoos. The lunch meeting starts at noon. The club always has interesting speakers at its Thursday lunch meetings and they welcome new members.
Tomorrow should reach 27 C
The weather will be nice and sunny right through the weekend, according to Environment Canada’s latest forecast. Today will get up to 24 C, but tomorrow should reach a balmy 27 C.
The weekend will cool off to 18 C and 19 C respectively on Saturday and Sunday, but both days will be sunny.
