Dear Editor:
This letter is written regarding Town of Osoyoos council’s recent announcement about the possible closure of the Osoyoos Airport and the Osoyoos Airport Development Society’s (OADS) response on the future of the airport.
The Osoyoos Airport Development Society wrote a detailed letter in the Dec. 10 edition of the Osoyoos Times voicing their opposition to any plans to close the airport.
I am writing to support the position of the OADS.
I believe there is a strategic advantage for a community to have air travel access.
Re-purposing our airport is a shortsighted approach to management of a valuable asset and potentially undermines past marketing efforts. When properly managed, airports create economic benefit to a community.
From all appearances, the OADS has methodically been investigating this issue.
I feel a decision now would be premature and that further action should be tabled until such time as the business plan is complete.
