Dear Editor:

Hello. Do you know anything about the Cactus Ridge Retirement Residence here in Osoyoos?

It is a great place to live. We are under new management. They have a very positive attitude toward the residents and the community.

When a good idea is put forward, several of us get together and make it happen. If the resident doesn’t wish to participate, that’s fine too.

This year we joined in the pyjama drive for children up to age 12. Several other people donated items. We were very pleased to be able to donate so many pairs of pyjamas for the children who need them in the surrounding community as well as here in Osoyoos.

On November 22, management put on their very first Christmas arts and crafts fair. They bought different food for a bake sale.

With the help of the residents, everything was made here and then baked in our kitchen. It proved to be a lot of work, but great fun. We made cookies, tarts, cinnamon buns and Christmas loaves.

On the day of the Christmas fair, the Osoyoos Royalty Queen and one of the Princesses did a tremendous job as they helped serve tea, coffee and dessert in our country kitchen.

We would like to thank them very much.

We have a lot of great artists in our community. Connie Osachoff, one of our residents, has been in Osoyoos a long time and knew several of them. A total of 17 local artists came out to display their lovely creations in our beautiful, decorated front entrance and into our formal dining room.

We have great talent living in and around Osoyoos.

Cactus Ridge Retirement Residence was proud to have a large Christmas decorated area to display such lovely homemade treasures.

We had a very nice crowd show up to look at the artwork and enjoy the atmosphere. We thank everyone for coming out and we offer a special thank you to the artists for your helping in making this an excellent Christmas event.

We at Cactus Ridge Retirement Residence are very pleased with the amount of money we raised. All the money will go to Osoyoos Elementary School for new playground equipment.

I have lived at Cactus Ridge for the past 18 months and love it. Don’t be afraid to come and check us out.
