Dear Editor:

It may be a national park to some people who live in this region, but to me it seems more like a zoo.

As you can probably already discern, I am against this nonsense relating to a proposed national park for the South Okanagan and Similkameen valleys.

And yes I’m afraid that if these individuals who support a national park get their way from our governments, that it will turn into a very dangerous zoo.

Should this take place, all young families should be on alert at all times when their children are playing out in their backyards as cougars and bears don’t understand the term “playing fair.”

There are already enough deer causing damage on our roads and in the orchards. Should this area become a national park, there will be plenty more wandering by animals in our backyards  … and with that the possibility of more cougars as well, as deer are their meal of choice.

Turning this area into a national park will be a detriment to young and old alike.

What responsibility will these individuals in favour of the park give us when your children are attacked by a bear or cougar in their very own backyards or more individuals are killed on our roads as the deer and other animals are allowed to multiply and roam the park at will?

I don’t believe that these individuals in favour of the park have given much thought and will not take any responsibility as these incidents begin increasing.

I also imagine it won’t take very long for us to start noticing the difference should this actually become the unfortunate reality. I encourage those opposed to this idea, just as I am, to speak out and maybe together our voice will be heard and they will reconsider their choice and the safety of our communities and all of the citizens who live here, young and old alike.

My vote is not just 100 per cent against the proposed national park, but it is 199 per cent not in favour and I encourage yours to be as well.

Thank you.
