Dear Editor:
I was very pleased to see the letter from your Calgary reader Christina Morgan as I share the same viewpoint about the Desert Live Music Festival.
My husband and I live in the White Sands condominium complex and people visited us from Destination Osoyoos who were there to talk to us about this music festival they wanted to hold in our community.
It sounded pretty good as we were informed that it was an inaugural event and that they would have music going for five days.
I am all for events that will bring money and tourists into town, however, we were not prepared for the nightmare of the event. The music was so loud that the walls inside our unit shook.
The music was heard all over town so you can imagine what it was like for us who live right next door to Gyro Park.
Is there a reason that it needs to be so loud? I actually got nauseated from it.
My husband and I had to leave town everyday, because we couldn’t stand it.
We had to leave our home and use a lot of gas for these five days. We are high tax paying citizens and it is ridiculous that we have to resort to this.
I agree with Morgan that a more appropriate venue needs to be found before any more so called festivals happen, and if they use such large and loud speakers that location should be far away from the downtown core.
I would be totally surprised if we didn’t lose some valuable visitors to our town after this fiasco.
Sincerely,
Barb Richter
Osoyoos, B.C.
