A burger and beer event Saturday evening at the Sage Pub is being held to raise funds to hold this summer’s first horse race day at Desert Park.

The Edward Jones office of financial advisor Matthew Tolley sponsors the fundraiser and proceeds go to the Desert Park Exhibition Society, said Allison Baskett, branch office administrator at Edward Jones.

A $20 ticket gets you a burger and beer on May 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are available in advance from the Osoyoos Times, the Sage Pub and Edward Jones.

There will be a silent auction and a 50-50 draw, and music will be with a DJ, Baskett said.

“It’s actually the day of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, so we’re going to have a door prize if anyone wants to dress up in Kentucky Derby style,” said Baskett. “We’ll have a door prize for the best dressed.”

The event is the first of three fundraisers that will help to finance the first horse race day at Desert Park, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 14.

A second race day on Aug. 16 will be funded with proceeds from the first race day, Baskett said.

Although there was a similar fundraising event last year, Baskett said this is the first year Edward Jones has been involved as a sponsor and organizer.

“This year at Edward Jones we were looking for a way to give back to the community,” Baskett said, adding Carol Youngberg, president of the Desert Park Exhibition Society, then approached her.
