It was certainly refreshing to see people from so many backgrounds within the community come together to flesh out a shared vision for the future of economic development in Osoyoos.
Although only a first step in outlining Osoyoos’s economic development goals, the April 24 workshop can be considered a success in that roughly 30 people came together to share ideas in a positive and enthusiastic way.
The workshop wasn’t about criticism or focusing on where we’ve been.
It was about connecting as a community.
Some of the ideas may not have been liked by all and it could be that not everyone who participated in the workshop walked away feeling something meaningful had taken place.
But, overall, there seemed to be a feeling of optimism in the air as people left the gathering.
The trick will be to make sure the ideas raised at the workshop don’t just fall onto the back burner.
Hopefully, in six months or a year, we’ll be seeing some of the fruits of this gathering around us.
