The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a feasibility study to examine all options for sewer service in the northwest sector of Osoyoos (Lacey Point to Willow Beach), says Area 'A' Director Mark Pendergraft.
The RDOS has also applied for partial funding for the estimated $30,000-study, which will explore connecting to the town system, a stand-alone sewer system, and the costs of upgrading all septic systems to meet the new standards and/or if this option is even allowed with lot sizes and locations in relation to the lake. It will also estimate the potential costs for each, and confirm whether there is, in fact, a problem with failing or outdated septic systems.
Pendergraft says the study is necessary to meet all the criteria for an application to senior government for two-thirds funding of the sewer project. He adds part of the study could include dye testing, and letters will be sent home to owners asking if they are willing to co-operate with these tests.
The Town and the RDOS have agreed to work together to see what the results of the study show us. Once the study is done, the Town and the RDOS will meet again and decide on how to proceed.rnHe adds a suitable public assent process would likely be held to gauge the rural residents' wishes.
The RFP closing date is mid-August and the expected completion date for the study is October 16.
