Osoyoos' next council will set the direction for the community

Osoyoos is at a key point in its development, which is why everyone who cares about Osoyoos should be paying attention in the upcoming municipal election.
Unfortunately, Osoyoos appears to be a divided community. But that doesn't have to be the case.
With people being labelled as either pro or anti development it is time for the reasonable people of this community to step forward and demand a reasonable approach to finding the right path to put Osoyoos on.
No one should support shutting the community down to all development. That is ridiculous. After all many, many people in our community make their living off the construction industry.
However, unplanned development, or just the perception of that, is just as damaging. Many people are scared that Osoyoos is simply growing too fast. Judging from the tremendous number of zoning changes and Official Community Plan amendments those fears do not seem unfounded. The inability of the current council to complete a new OCP in three years is by far the biggest problem, however, council's absolute lack of communication with the community about key issues, such as development, has also created much of the rift that currently exists. That is why people of this community need to pay attention to who they are electing this November. It will be the next council that sets the direction for this town and how it will develop in the future.
There are lots of different opinions, but it takes true leadership to bring those opinions together and set Osoyoos down the right path – and that is developing and moving forward in a way that most in the community can not only support, but be proud of. And that is who we need to elect.
