AGM a complete success
The B.C Cattlemen's Association held their convention at the Sun Bowl Area in Osoyoos last week.
The three-day event featured speeches from Premier Gordon Campbell and Lanny McDonald, entertainment, 4-H displays and trade show.
We felt our Annual General Meeting in Osoyoos was a complete success, said association spokesman Ed Fossen.
With over 300 registered guests and a sold-out trade fair, as well as the premier of the province giving us a speech of support for our industry in crisis, I don't think it could have been any better.
With the BSE crisis and the protracted closure of the U.S. border to live cattle, I think the premier coming to Osoyoos and giving us the speech that he did was a tremendous psychological boost to the 1,400 producers throughout the province.rnFossen also said that guest speaker Lanny McDonald was a great hit with the crowd Saturday and thanked Bernie with the South Okanagan Transit System for getting everyone home safely.
Fossen added the Can Can Girls from Grand Forks, the music of Rick Woods and the band Sonny Boys were also a hit with the crowd.
The Osoyoos Times staff, the people of Osoyoos and the local businesses, the Osoyoos Council, the Sun Bowl staff, the Curling Club, and the people at Destination Osoyoos were all so supportive, Fossen said.
He also said the entire event was very well organized, with the Show in Motion team setting everything up smoothly.
The BSE crisis is still with our industry, but we feel this AGM in Osoyoos has been a tremendous morale booster to the producers of B.C. and will go a long way in helping us to 'Survive and Thrive,' Fossen said.
B.C. Cattlemen's Association rep Elaine Stovin echoed Fossen's comments about their reception in Osoyoos.
I want to thank the people of Osoyoos for putting up the banners and the welcome signs in their store fronts. We received a lot of great community support, she said.
