Street patios like this one in Kelowna could become more common in Osoyoos. Town staff are working on a bylaw and policy update that will change the Town’s sidewalk use policy. (Town of Osoyoos)
Re: Sidewalk patios could become more common with street use policy update
Dear Editor:
If you know me, you know I love my town of Osoyoos and I will do anything to improve and to beautify it. However, the design that is being proposed outside my establishment is a concern to me and my clients.
As a downtown business woman, I have never been approached or made aware of any changes that could potentially affect my business. I found out about the proposed plan after reading about it in the local paper.
I am not opposed to patio restaurants, but I am concerned about the proposed design that seems to restrict sidewalk access to shops and stores which will prove inconvenient, particularly to seniors and young families.
We cannot afford to lose more parking stalls which are already very limited in our downtown core. Unfortunately for us, our Main Street is Highway 3.
