The Anarchist Mountain community is mourning their deputy fire chief after his sudden passing on New Year’s Day.

Jamie Soule, 70, passed away after a heart attack on Jan. 1, Anarchist Mountain Fire Department chief Urs Grob said.

“We’re all in shock,” he said. “A first responder had to attend and that’s always difficult when you attend at a friend’s place and the outcome is not good.”

Soule served on the fire department for eight years, half of which he held the title of deputy fire chief.

He was also involved in the local music scene and performed with Osoyoos-based band Double Stop Creek.

“Jaime was just a great guy, he had a fantastic personality and was helpful,” Grob said. “It’s always difficult when you lose a friend but he was really a special guy.”

Soule will be honoured at a memorial service on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Penticton at 11 a.m. Firefighters and uniformed personnel are asked to attend in uniform.
