Significant flooding and mudslides have hit Fairview Mountain Golf Course as a result of yesterday’s heavy rains.

Maintenance crews are out this morning assessing the damage on the third hole where mud, rocks and huge trees washed down from the mountain overnight.

Club president Rob Zandee said their immediate task is to control the flooding. He noted the course just opened yesterday but will be closed until they get a handle on the situation.

Zandee said the Oliver wildfire of 2015 led to unstable ground (above their property) which is now prone to slides.

He noted the golf course previously applied to the government for stream channel remediation, but the application was rejected.
