The Osoyoos Soroptimists last week made a $2,100 donation to Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Centre for its programs that help women and children. This is on top of a $1,000 they gave to Desert Sun in April. Receiving the cheque was Marieze Tarr (left), executive director of Desert Sun, presented by President Joan Wilson (second from left). Part of the donation was in grocery store gift cards – $300 each for AG Foods and Buy-Low Foods – which are used for the community kitchen. Holding the cards are Dot Rathgeber, program chair, and Doris Walton, fundraising coordinator. Of the cash contribution, $1,000 is going to women’s programs and $500 is going to Desert Sun’s resiliency camp to assist two children in attending. Tarr said the camp allows children to experience nature, hiking and the outdoors and to get away from their screens and electronic devices. The Soroptimists contribute to many other community programs. (Richard McGuire photo)
