Osoyoos Elementary School will be getting a new vice principal for the coming school year.
School District 53 on Tuesday announced the appointment of Patsy-Anne Takacs effective on Aug. 1, 2018.
This means the departure of current Vice Principal Amanda Jones, who leaves after one year. Jones was only hired for a one-year term.
“I had to reapply and went up against some very talented and experienced competition,” Jones said Tuesday. “Ms Takacs, she’s got many more years experience than I do and the board felt that was something they needed to go with.”
Takacs comes from School District 8, Kootenay Lake, where she is currently the principal of Canyon-Lister Elementary School in Creston.
She has more than 20 years experience teaching kindergarten and primary grades.
Takacs is completing a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Vancouver Island University, the Centre for Innovative Educational Leadership.
Jones admits she’s disappointed, but says she’ll be working full time as learning support in Oliver and so will be staying in the area.
“I would have loved to stay in Osoyoos,” she said. “I hope that as an opportunity arises, I will be able to stay on as administration in the area.”
Jones was gracious to her successor.
“I’m excited for what Ms. Takacs is going to bring to the school, with her knowledge and experience and I think the district is very lucky to have her,” she said.
