The family of Rob Oliver has shared the news that the long-time volunteer firefighter succumbed to a “long hard-fought” battle with cancer, dying Sunday, aged 69. “He was surrounded with love from his family until he peacefully slipped away,” his family said on social media.
Oliver dedicated 43 years of his life to public service, first in the community of Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department where he rose from the ranks of firefighter to become Chief and then with the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department (WFD) after he and his family moved there in 2021.
Just last year Oliver was recognized for his over 40 years in the fire service with the awarding of the Governor General of Canada award for “Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal”.

“He was committed to keeping his communities safe with pride, honour and heart,” his family related.
“He was deeply loved by close friends and family, always ready with a helping hand and a laugh. Rob was an incredible father, teaching Haley and Dustin pretty much everything he knew! He was a fun loving husband and a proud Papa and his dogs meant the world to him,” they continued.
“Rob knew how to enjoy life — from camping and concerts to Vegas and motorcycles…..or just kicking back with a corona!”

The family plans to celebrate his life with an Honour Guard ceremony this spring.
“Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. We’ll share more when we can.”
The family is requesting that In lieu of flowers donations be made to the Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department.
