The Oliver Fire Department (OFD) responded to a structure fire at approx. 6:50 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, in the area of Brauns Rd and Hwy 97 south of Vaseux Lake.
The OFD said crews arrived to find a fully involved structure and worked to contain the blaze with suppression efforts.
“Crews remained overnight to take care of any visible hot spots and smoke/steam will remain visible throughout the morning hours. Crews will be in and out of the area throughout the day,” the fire department added.
It noted that firefighting crews from Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department attended with a water tender and a crew from Willowbrook Volunteer Fire Department attended and provided coverage for the Town of Oliver while crews were committed to this fire.
“We thank them for being able to provide us assistance,” the OFD said adding it could not provide further information on the cause until further investigation concluded.
Subsequent social media posts have been asking the community for assistance as the couple living in the home have lost everything (but managed to save their four dogs).
