A man known to the police has been arrested after a motorcycle accident on Hwy. 97 just south of Rd. 7 on July 24.
Oliver RCMP were called to a single motor vehicle incident at 11:55 a.m. where witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle being driven erratically before it lost control and went down, according to RCMP Sgt. Jason Bayda, Osoyoos Detachment.
The male driver fled the scene on foot while the female passenger was attended to for injuries.
“Oliver RCMP along with police from Osoyoos, Keremeos and BC Highway Patrol searched for the male, receiving numerous calls from the public as he ran near the canal trail,” Bayda said. Police located the male and apprehended him near Road 15, with Bayda adding that the individual is “well known to police”.
The motorcycle had a stolen license plate and RCMP believe the motorcycle itself was stolen as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) had been ground off.
He added that the motorcycle matches one recently stolen out of Osoyoos. The male driver was released shortly after his arrest to have a medical assessment for minor injuries from the crash.
He faces charges for possession of stolen property, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and further charges are expected.
