The Osoyoos Secondary School Rattlers Senior Boys Single-A basketball team returned from the Provincial Championships in Langley in early March putting in a great effort and placing 9th overall in the province.

The tournament started off well for the Rattlers as they led the defending provincial champions, Vancouver’s King David Lions up until the second half.

The Rattlers led in the first quarter 18-10, holding on to that lead through the second quarter heading into the second half of the game with a 27-24 lead.

Unfortunately, the second half of the game did not go well for the Osoyoos team and the Rattlers ultimately lost 67-43.

Game two of the tournament saw the Rattlers winning 72-61 against a tough team, Campell River Christian.  Player of the game was Jackson Lake with 21 points.

Game three against Surrey’s Ecole Gabrielle Roy saw another Rattler win 61-48 with player of the game honors going to Preston Pederson with 20 points.

Game four against Brooks Westshore from Victoria went down to the wire with a last minute three pointer for Brooks Westshore tying the game and sending it to overtime.

The Rattlers ultimately prevailed 54-49 with Preston Pederson scoring six points in overtime to seal the victory. Jackson Lake & Armaan Gill were awarded players of the game.

The Rattlers ended the provincials winning their last three games of the tournament and placing 9th overall in the province.

On behalf of the team, coach Gene Lockerby said: “We would like to sincerely thank all of the community members, businesses, families and friends who helped with the expenses for the trip to Langley.”

He also highlighted the assistance of the “Hershel Herrendorf Foundation (HHF) and Needs Gym for their very generous donation”.

Chilliwack’s Unity Christian took first place in the tournament of 16 teams with a 74-71 win over Haida Gwaii’s Gidgalang Kuuyas Naay.
