The Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen (CFSOS) is once again offering Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSF), empowering residents with up to $500 to cultivate innovative ideas that enhance community connections.
With over $35,000 in grants available, the program aims to support grassroots initiatives and remove financial barriers for local projects.
Through the resources and support that the NSG provides, the Community Foundation hopes to encourage innovation and collaboration, sparking positive change from the ground up.
“This grassroots approach not only strengthens community bonds but also cultivates a culture of empowerment, where every voice matters and every idea has the potential to make a meaningful difference,” the organization says.
Last year, CFSOS funded over 70 projects aimed at bolstering local neighbourhoods. These projects included block parties with a purpose, street art festivals, skill-building workshops (such as food preservation, gardening, or upcycling), and cultural showcases.
This year, residents are encouraged to submit proposals emphasizing initiatives that celebrate indigenous heritage, cultural diversity, and youth involvement, as part of their ongoing efforts to enhance community vitality and inclusivity.
Kim English, NSG Coordinator at the Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen (CFSOS), emphasizes the pivotal role of the NSG program in nurturing community-driven ideas.
“NSG serves as a catalyst for transformative grassroots initiatives, unlocking the creative potential of our communities.” Through NSG, individuals are empowered to bring to life an idea that addresses local needs, fostering a sense of ownership and collective responsibility.
To support applicants and provide further information, a virtual NSG Info Session is scheduled for March 20 from 4:30 – 5:00 pm. Interested participants can RSVP by contacting Kim English at CFSOS at [email protected]. Applications for Neighbourhood Small Grants are open from March 17 to April 20, 2024.
