The Oliver Curling Club Society (OCCS) was denied a $200,000 grant for their accessibility project as too big of an ask by Oliver town council.

The OCCS presented to town council on Nov. 3 seeking financial support for their Accessibility Project for the Oliver Curling Centre.

The current plan for their project has two phases. The first phase will see the installation of a two story elevator and in the second phase accessible washrooms will be installed on the second floor of the building.

While town council was generally in favour of supporting the project they thought that $200,000 was too much money and suggested to OCCS that they work with town staff to try and secure other grants and apply to the town with a grant-in-aid request.

The entire Accessibility Project has an estimated cost of $365,000 plus applicable taxes. In their presentation to council they noted that they have received an Enabling Accessibility Grant from the Federal government in the amount of $100,000.

This federal grant has enabled them to launch their project, but they are continuing to do fundraising to fund the entire project.
