A single car accident on 89th St. south of 70th Ave, mid-afternoon on Nov. 23 closed the street for a number of hours after a car drove into an excavated hole and landed on a two inch Fortis gas line.

The Times Chronicle understands that the driver of the SUV disregarded the instructions of flag personnel and drove around the traffic pylons before driving into the hole. It’s not known whether the lone occupant was injured in the accident.

A possible contributing factor was the low sun on the horizon. The car could not be removed until Fortis shut off the gas supply. Times Chronicle also understands that WorkSafeBC is conducting an investigation into the incident.
