The following are Oliver town council briefs from the Feb. 13 meeting.

Civic addressing

Council adopted an amendment bylaw updating address changes that have occurred since May of 2020.

This includes the addition of the last phase of the Bentgrass subdivision as well as other minor updates.

Proclamations

Council proclaimed Feb. 20, 2023 as Heritage Week, and March 26 as International Purple Day for epilepsy awareness.

Service connection

Council directed staff to award the contract for 6701 Tucelnuit service connection to Grizzly Excavating, Ltd.

The tender award is contingent on the developer covering the full costs of the project.

SILGA resolutions

Council endorsed a draft resolution by Councillor Aimee Grice for the upcoming SILGA convention.

It seeks a requirement for the provincial government to provide ongoing operational support after providing grant funding for programs.

Council appointments

Council appointed Terry Schafer to the Local Immigration Partnership Council, with Councillor Aimee Grice as the alternate.

Grice was also appointed to the Respect [anti-racism] Network, with 

Councillor Petra Veintimilla as the alternate.

Airport advisory

Council appointed Holden Brock to sit as the Oliver Flying Club representative on the Oliver Airport Advisory Committee for a two-year term. It also thanked Christopher Temos for his service on the Oliver Airport Advisory Committee. 

Fire calls

The Oliver Fire Department responded to 27 calls during the month of January. 

These calls included 10 in the rural area, 15 in town, and two on the Osoyoos Indian Band reserve.

Twelve of the calls were 13 direct alarms, four were assisting ambulance, and three were burning complaints.

Irrigation dates

Farmers take note: Council authorized staff to proceed with canal diversion and irrigation start dates – April 4 and April 11.

Letter of support

The Town of Oliver is writing a letter of support for the Oliver Curling Club that is applying for a special grant.

The Club seeks a “Green and Inclusive Community Buildings” grant for a medium retrofit project to introduce a new solar array, maximize existing geothermal energy, and upgrade their building thermal dynamics.
