The RCMP say an unlicensed driver was responsible for knocking out power in Oliver on Monday night.
Police report that a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup was travelling southbound on Highway 97 when it veered into the oncoming lane and hit a power pole near Bettison Road just before 7 p.m. Police say the collision sheared the pole in half, causing its lines to come down, closing the highway for 3.5 hours.
FortisBC cut the power and the driver was removed from the truck.
The RCMP report the incoherent driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. It was noted the vehicle’s airbags had deployed and the driver was using a seatbelt.
Police say the 53-year-old woman from Oliver was unlicensed and issued a violation ticket to that effect.
