The Watermark Beach Resort has announced a new general manager in David McBean, who joins from Hyatt’s Spirit Ridge resort.

McBean brings over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry including an International Sommelier Guild (ISG) – Level One accreditation.

McBean began his hospitality career as an elevator operator at the CN Tower in his hometown of Toronto before later joining Fairmont Lake Louise, which set the stage for a lifelong career in hospitality. “Six months turned into five years,” joked McBean, referring to his time in Alberta.

“I had the opportunity to see how a resort truly operates during my time at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, which inspired me to pursue a lifelong path in hospitality.”

Since then, McBean has held leadership roles in revenue management and operations with respected brands such as Delta Hotels in Vancouver, and Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre, where he was instrumental in transitioning the Resort from a branded property to an independent hotel.

Most recently, he held the director of operations role at Spirit Ridge, Unbound Collection by Hyatt, in Osoyoos.

“I’m thrilled to join the incredible team at Watermark Beach Resort,” said McBean. “I know Watermark has all the ingredients to become a world-class resort and destination.”

“As a Southern Okanagan resident, I see the resort’s relationships with the surrounding regions and partners, and how it has brought value to the local community. I’m excited to continue building on the strong foundation Watermark has developed over the years.”
