At least one person suffered injuries after a vehicle left Highway 97 and rolled into an orchard north of Oliver this afternoon.
Police, ambulance and firefighters were called to a single-vehicle accident south of Park Rill Road at approximately 1:20 p.m. It was reported that an occupant was trapped in the vehicle laying on its side.
Firefighters proceeded to extricate the occupant while paramedics waited nearby. The extent of injuries is unknown.
Fire Chief Bob Graham reported that a power pole was badly damaged.
Oliver RCMP Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth said the motorist was travelling south when she attempted to pass another vehicle and struck the pole. He said a child was also in the vehicle but “was okay.” He noted the conscious driver was taken to hospital with injuries.
The power pole was subsequently replaced by FortisBC that afternoon.
Wrigglesworth said that firefighters and paramedics on scene did a “fantastic” job.
