A young driver who fell asleep at the wheel suffered minor injuries after crashing near Deadman Lake on Aug. 14.
Oliver RCMP report that a 17-year-old male from Prince George struck a hydro pole which blocked Highway 97 traffic in both directions at 2:25 p.m.
A witness told police that the driver’s vehicle had gone off the road around a turn near Road 21.
The lone occupant of the vehicle stated that he had fallen asleep while driving.
Police reported there was no indication of impairment, and the collision was not criminal in nature.
Ambulance attended and transported the driver to South Okanagan General Hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the hydro lines from the pole were not electrified, which allowed Oliver firefighters to cut them in order to get traffic flowing again.
