Oliver RCMP and local fire officials continue to investigate a structure fire that claimed the life of one individual on Saturday, May 21.

Corporal Paul Symons reported that a mobile home fire occurred on Ridgeview Road.

“Police can confirm that one deceased person was located inside the structure. At this time police are still investigating, and an exact cause of death or source of ignition are being determined,” Symons said.

The officer noted the identity of the human remains cannot be confirmed at this time, and out of respect for potential family members no names will be released.

Oliver Fire Department spokesman Rob Graham said when crews arrived on scene, heavy fire was pushing out from all windows of the home.

“Crews made quick exterior water application and once flames were knocked back then made entry into the structure where unfortunately they did locate a body.”

Graham said crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and limit the spread to the one structure. He added that no cause has been determined yet.

Graham said the home is a complete loss.
