Residents and team members at Mariposa Gardens Retirement & Care Community delivered messages of gratitude to firefighters and volunteers at the Osoyoos Fire Rescue and Anarchist Mountain Fire Department who battled the wildfires that hit the area this summer.

For nearly six weeks, firefighters and volunteers worked around the clock to keep the community safe. A ‘thank you’ banner, made by residents and team members, is displayed at both the Osoyoos and Anarchist Mountain fire halls to show appreciation for their hard work. In addition, Tim Horton’s muffins were also given.

“Thanks to their tireless efforts and bravery, residents of the affected areas have been kept safe,” says Billie Askeland, executive director at the Care Community.

“The community has supported Mariposa Gardens during the pandemic, and our team members know firsthand what it’s like to pull together and protect our team members and the residents. We can’t imagine what it’s like to be fighting fires, especially in the heatwave – words alone can’t express how appreciative we are.”

Mariposa Gardens, which provides independent, assisted living and long-term care in the community had prepared residents and team members for a possible evacuation but that step was not needed, thanks to the ongoing efforts from firefighters, Askeland added.
