A cow failed to stop for police during a low-speed pursuit north of Oliver on June 25.

RCMP received a report of a cow on the loose on Highway 97 near Station Street.

Corporal Paul Symons started patrolling the area and managed to close the distance on the bovine that refused to stop.

“A pursuit was initiated, speeds between five to 10 km/h, traffic was light, roads were dry, police emergency equipment was engaged,” said Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth.

The cow was described as light in colour, medium build with a possible yellow tag on its ear.

Wrigglesworth said the cow continued northbound on the yellow centre line and veered into oncoming traffic once.  “Fortunately, the civilian car took evasive actions and no damage occurred.”

At a peach orchard in the 7,400 block of Highway 97, Cpl. Symons tactically positioned his police truck across the front of the rampaging animal and re-directed it westbound into the orchard.

The suspect cow was last seen fleeing into the orchard around 2:40 a.m. No identity was made of the registered cow owner.
