An older male suffered injuries after becoming trapped under a garden tractor north of Oliver on Sunday.
Oliver Fire Department spokesman Rob Graham said they were called on the morning of June 27 to extricate an elderly patient from underneath a riding lawn mower at a residence near the dam on Okanagan River.
Graham said the individual was mowing grass at the edge of the river bank when the machine tipped over, trapping him only inches from the water.
Graham noted that a family member with a truck had a rope tied to the tractor to stabilize it.
Firefighters used their winch to further stabilize the machine while members removed the patient. He was then transferred to an awaiting ambulance with undetermined injuries.
Graham said the man had been trapped under the machine for at least 30 minutes. Fortunately, his head wasn’t in the water, he pointed out.
