Big burn piles summon firefighters

Once again, property owners are reminded not to burn on non-burn days.

Two “massive” burn piles on Test Orchard Road brought the attention of Oliver and Willowbrook firefighters this morning.

Today is a non-burn day due to predicted high winds, said Willowbrook Fire Chief Tony Iannella.

He noted they responded to two “massive” burn piles, which were subsequently extinguished.

Iannella said property owners are reminded to phone the regional district venting index line to determine whether it is a good burn day or not. The number is 250-490-4125.

“Winds are one of the worst conditions for fires as they will not only fan the flames but will carry embers away and start other fires, Iannella said. So, “please do not burn on non-approved burn days.”
