Osoyoos Lake levels , which remained “very low” for much of the 2024-2025 winter due to low precipitation in the Okanagan basin, are now being deliberately raised in preparation for summer according to the International Osoyoos Lake Board of Control (IOLBC).
Water levels in Osoyoos Lake and further upstream at Okanagan Lake are being kept at higher than normal levels for this time of the year due to low snowpack levels which may contribute to drought conditions this summer.
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a 1.6 million square kilometre patch of plastic and floating trash in the Pacific Ocean. In the waterways of the Okanagan we have our own plastic problem – microplastics.
Along with their continual work to educate the public about invasive freshwater mussels, the Okanagan Basin Water Board (OBWB) has also been busy looking into the impacts of boating on Okanagan Lake and developing educational events for the fall.
