The call for enhanced safety at pedestrian crosswalks crossing the busy Hwy. 3 along “motel row” in East Osoyoos has gotten an immediate response and commitment from BC’s transport ministry but the question now is when will the promised engineering review take place.
A serious accident on Hwy. 3 in East Osoyoos in front of the Coast Hotel on Saturday evening closed the road for several hours in what unconfirmed reports have said was a hit and run with a pedestrian sustaining serious injuries.
Osoyoos Mayor Sue McKortoff and Area C director Rick Knodel are fighting for the same thing – improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Both directors on the regional board recently made requests to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) to help bring added safety to their respective areas.
South Okanagan residents travelling back and forth to Penticton or further, will have a safer journey soon following news that the dangerous junction of Highway 97 and Highway 3A outside Kaleden will soon be remedied.
