Osoyoos council has voted unanimously to join an effort by a group of municipalities led by the Region District to apply for grant funding to acquire two fully equipped Tiger Dam trailers for emergency flood mitigation.
Osoyoos will receive $150,000 from the province to develop a plan to reduce flood damage and to help deal with damage costs.
The Town of Osoyoos has applied to the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund under their Disaster Risk Reduction through climate adaptation funding stream in hopes of moving forward with plans to develop a staged flood response plan, new floodplain land use regulation, and protections for the community’s water wells.
To help reduce flood risk, the province is providing the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) with $100,000 to update its flood risk and hazard assessment tool.
