An special air quality statement has been issued for the South Okanagan after numerous regions across BC are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours, according to Environment Canada.
Although the future of the region’s agricultural wood waste chipping program is uncertain, it will continue for the remainder of the year. That’s what the regional district board decided last week as it pondered creating a special air quality service.
Regional district staff has recommended that the agricultural wood waste chipping program be discontinued next year.
Residents in parts of the Okanagan Valley including Oliver and Osoyoos didn’t get their mail delivered on at least two days this week due to poor air quality as a result of ongoing wildfires.
