The Princeton RCMP have issued a statement confirming the investigation of the theft of a hand-carved wooden mountain goat statue belonging to the Upper Similkameen Indian Band (USIB).

The carving was stolen at approximately 2 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8 from the Chuchuwayha Community Hall, located on Highway 3, in Hedley, the RCMP said.

Video footage of the theft shows two suspects arriving in an older model Ford F-150 pick-up truck towing a wooden cargo trailer. The truck is described as dark blue or black, maybe a 2009-2014 model with the “XTR” trim package and chrome wheels.

“This carving carries great cultural and sentimental importance for the Upper Similkameen community,” says Cpl. Scott McDiarmid, Princeton RCMP. “We’re asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in Hedley during the early morning hours of July 8, or, who recognizes the vehicle and/or suspect, to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Princeton RCMP at 250-295-6911.
